VALENTINE’S DAY | Last Minute Ideas

Sharpie Mugs

It’s that time of year again – Valentine’s Day is here! Are you ready? If you’re anything like me, life got busy and you haven’t even thought about what your going to do for your significant other. Sorry Billy! But before you start stressing about what gift to get your boo, take a step back to remember what V-Day is really all about: L-O-V-E. It’s easy to get caught up in the heart-shaped, pink-covered, chocolate-filled craze that is Valentine’s Day. But we don’t need a dozen roses to make us feel loved – so how about mixing things up a little this year? I can hear you saying it’s a little too late for that but trust me, there’s still time. From DIY to movie marathons, check out these super simple ideas for your Valentine.

Try a new recipe together
Try a new recipe together.
Instead of the usual dining out, head to the grocer together and pick out some fresh ingredients. Try something new, something different – and just have fun with it! If your stuck for ideas, check out Jessica Sepel’s collection of delicious recipes or even try her Nut Butter and Sea Salt Brownie if your feeling sweet. Grab a bottle of your favourite wine and light the candles to up the romance factor.

Booze and board games.
Enough said. Unpack those board games, drag them out from the back of the hallway cupboard. Monopoly and Twister aren’t just for kids. Board games are a fun way to connect, laugh, and even get a little competitive. Make some snacks and settle down for a night of entertainment.

Pack a picnic and head off into the outdoors.  Picnic’s are a classic, and for good reason. They are romantic, intimate, and super easy to pull off. Pick a romantic spot – a park or, if you’re lucky enough to live by the sea, the beach, grab some food, drink and a blanket, maybe even some candles and head down for a romantic evening out.

from Better Together. This is seriously cute and seriously simple. With free printables from Better Together, it really couldn’t be any easier.

Water Balloon War. “Boyfriend – You have five minutes to get changed and grab your ammo. Meet you out front. Loser cooks dinner tonight. Love, Girlfriend xx.” You know this idea, you’ve seen it before. But I just love it too much to leave out! Not too mention its a perfect last minute idea to add a little fun to your Valentine’s Day.

DIY Coffee Mugs.
Embrace the creative inside and design your own coffee mugs together. You only have to search Pinterest and you will find a million different “how to” website and blog posts. My only advice, don’t bother with the sharpie idea. It doesn’t work! Opt for a paint marker like in this tutorial. Once you have your mug and your paint marker – your good to go! I actually did this last year for Billy and had so much fun doing it.

Build a movie fort.
Yeah, that’s right – a movie fort. Because we are never to old for forts! And what could be better than Valentine’s Day spent cuddled up with your person watching movies…in a fort! Grab the ice cream, the m&m’s and settle in for a romantic night. And if your feeling extra Valentine-sie, whip up a batch of this deliciously adorable popcorn.

Amongst the hustle and bustle of Valentine’s Day, don’t forget that it is an opportunity for us to truly reconnect with the real meaning of the day – love. These are all simple ideas we can do to bring more love and joy into our lives on a regular basis.

What are your Valentine’s Day plans? Are you keeping it simple or have you got something more extravagant planned?
